my philosophy

It is the intent of my practice to support pregnant people and their loved ones as they experience the life-changing event of becoming a parent*. Through my twenty years of practicing as a doula I have come to trust a person's ability to make strong decisions when they have access to accurate information and appropriate support.
As a doula, it is my job is to help you interpret and address your various concerns, ensure that you are well-prepared for the birth experience you seek, and foster confidence and comfort.
I came to birth work from a social justice background. Though my private practice has grown over time, I have never been able to leave my social justice perspective behind. Instead, as birth has become more and more a part of my life, I have felt an even stronger desire to make sure no one births without excellent support.
Birth is important. But, I do not believe that having a natural birth is what makes it important. Feeling that you are the at the center of your birth experience, able to make informed decisions confidently, and are respected and lifted up by the people around you prevents fear and trauma and opens up the possibility of having an enriching and powerful birth. This is the kind of supported experience that everyone deserves. In fact, I believe it is a human right.
Having my own thriving private practice allows me to make the offer of a supported childbirth available to many more people through my sliding scale, the pro bono work that I do and through connecting people to the network of doulas who share my views on the importance of access to doulas for all, some of whom I mentor.
Birth is about coming more fully into your power, and meeting your most capable self. It is with this in mind that I invite you to consider working with a doula.
* I consider making an adoption plan a parenting decision.
