Statement of Purpose:
As a doula, my role is to support informed consent for my clients during childbirth preparation, their birth experience and directly postpartum. To me, informed consent involves truly understanding all of your options and how different decisions will affect your overall experience. Sometimes this can involve digging deeper into your belief systems to ensure that the decisions made allow an authentic experience. By doing this additional level of preparation, birthing families will find that they are more prepared for the unpredictable elements of birth and beyond. Through providing a steady presence and the belief that women and their loved ones are strong and capable, I support powerful and memorable birth experiences.

Prenatal Contact:
As your doula, I will meet with you at least three times prior to the birth of your child:

  • The first meeting is considered an interview and allows us an opportunity to meet and determine whether we would be a good match.
  • The second meeting is spent discussing your plans, hopes and fears. This meeting is designed to ensure that as your doula, I have a thorough understanding of how you would like to be supported at your birth.
  • The third meeting is a chance to reconnect as your due date approaches. This meet-up tends to be the least task-oriented and serves as an opportunity to relay updates and continue building familiarity and trust. Depending on the case, this meeting can be spent enjoying a walk, baking bread or any other activity of your choosing.

    Please note:
Optional additional prenatal meetings are available on an as needed basis. I offer one on one childbirth education and birth-planning, which can take the place of a group or hospital class or serve as a valuable compliment to such classes. Additionally, I have specific training and experience working with survivors or trauma and abuse and encourage additional meetings to plan for a positive birth experience if you are a survivor. Please let me know if you would like assistance assessing your need for more specific and tailored prenatal support.
